I was in the right frame of mind to watch this movie or it wouldn't have made the 5-star rating nor would I have even finished it. I wanted something light, easy to watch without investing too much of my brain power but not nonsensical. The opening was very eye-catching and I wasn't sure if I would make it much farther past the opening credits if it continued in the same vein, but as the movie continued, I delighted in the connection that was established with the audience from the first shot. This movie seemed to encompass a lot of 'camp' power and revel in it - almost like, 'Hey, we know this is silly, but play along and we'll all have a few laughs.' Sure enough, that's exactly what happened. Suspend your pragmatic thinking process just a shade to the left of center and this movie makes an unbelievable group of wild and crazy people seem very plausible. I really enjoyed the sibling rivalry into adulthood theme that pervaded the whole film. It was exaggerated, but plausible, given their rampantly dysfunctional family. Chris Noth plays a crazy, insane actor who really plays a crazy, insane actor to the hilt. With that big of a personality stealing every scene he is in, the younger brother does a credible job of holding his own. I liked most all the characters and there are a slew of them. All in all, the pace was good, there was just enough intellectual stimulation to keep you guessing what was going to happen to whom next. Fresh!
