The first copy we bought was 25 years ago. It brought many hours of happy singing to preschool children. So I was thrilled to see it on Amazon and now have a copy for my grandchildren. Is an American song book of all time.I love this book! It has sheet music, not just lyrics! There's a piece of art (highly varied both by time period and region) for every song, and many songs have historical notes alongside them.A few outdated (military mostly) songs but generally good songs that my grandkids enjoy and really nice (slightly unusual pictures). I may have sung The Old Woman Who Swallowed a Fly a few too many times at this point, but apparently, for a four year old, there is no limit. Easy piano parts that an intermediate player can figure out.The book arrived in perfect condition. It's a real classic, great for kids learning to play the piano or guitar and for adults returning to playing. The illustrations from the Metropolitan Museum's collection bring the music into a relationship with the visual images.I got this book to use at my preschool so the children could identify the songs by looking at the pictures. It has pictures of paintings, sculptures and folk art. Short histories are included. There are many familiar children's songs and the children in my class love finding a picture they like and then asking me to play and sing it. It has both musical notation and chords (letters only, no diagram). There are more chord changes than a guitar or ukulele beginner may like, but they do make it sound good. It would also be good with the piano.Published by The Metropolitan Museum of Art, printed & bound in Italy this wonderful childrens songbook combines classic songs, paired with illustrations of Art from The Museums collection & others spanning 5000 years of cultural history from around the world. This book is inspiring educational & fun. This has provided even more enjoyment with my two-year-old than I hoped. He loves books and music, so I was hopeful that this would be a winning combination. I had no idea it would turn out to be his favorite book...probably his favorite (quiet!) activity for weeks now. He turns to song after song and would be entertained for 30 minutes at a time...as long as he can get me to sing! I'm including photos of the table of contents.I used this book with my kids when they were young. I bought them each a copy for them to use with their kids. It was a hit.The book is just wonderful in every way. Thanks!I ordered this book because I wanted a way to bring more music into our home. It fits the bill perfectly. It's a lovely hardcover, rich with beautiful images of paintings, sculptures, tapestries, and other artwork which is sure to interest children, and it contains a wonderful selection of traditional songs. Some of them are actual children's songs like The Eensy Weensy Spider, many of them are American folksongs like Home On the Range and My Darling Clementine, others are older English songs like Greensleeves. The musical arrangements are very easy to play. My piano skills are a bit rusty because I haven't played in many years, but I was pleased to find that I could manage all the songs in this book. Anyone with only a reasonable amount of piano experience could play these songs without any difficulty.I must say, I am really enjoying playing and singing the songs in this book with my little ones. In and Out the Window is definitely a keeper. We had a copy of this lovely book (a gift to our son from my husband's mother) when our children were young and I have now purchased two additional ones--one for my daughter and one for myself for when grandchildren come for a visit. The book was in excellent condition - clean and like-new. Very satisfied with my purchase. It matched the description given. Still in good shape. Happy with the order.
